11/7/11 Hastings to Wabasha 83km, 4.25 hrs, av 19.68
The motel was fine but probably was used for accomodation due to slackness, anyway i had a couple of bowls of cereal there for breakfast.
In my mind I wasn’t going ride back to La crescent so I just took my time departing, getting away just after 1100hrs and cruising into town looking for a place to dine, ending up at the American Legion on the river outside. Thge girl ther kindly gave me a piece of cardboard and a texta in return I gave her a $3 tip.
“La Crescent would be great thanks” was written on the carboard. Hitching was going to be tried.
Fruit was also bought and a good strong spring was found for the steering dampener, finally.
Getting out of town limits I parked on the shoulder and displayed my intentions. There were bugger all pickups about, these represented my best chance at an easy trip to La Crescent .In about 20 minutes a woman pulled over in Pajereo . we managed to squeeze stuff in. Even though she only took me 25km it was great. We had a few laughes she explained her and her family were about to go on vacation and that they had bought two cabins 2 years ago for five eighths of nothing about the time of the GFC, good for them.
Public transport here is like looking for a camel in a rainforest. The trains are a electronic booking and dont want to know about excess baggage.
After having been dropped off I tried the hitching again, no go, just not enough suitable vehicles using the route.
So I resigned myself to riding to Wabasha. It wasn’t so bad I arrived about 2000hrs and went straight to the Irish pub where I dined two nights ago.
About 8 miles from town I was joined by another cyclist Dean, a great guy we chatted all the way and he gave me some directions.
The woman said, you’re back I told her about my loop on both sides of the river. She said we dont see many cyclists twice. I laughed and said if you see me again I will be getting blind in here cause I really will be lost. A bud light was eagerly consumed over conversation with another couple at the bar.
I set up tent at the same spot Owen and I had camped a couple of nights ago making sure the elevatoins were right, read a bit and crashed.
