Supía (1183m) to Riosucio (1783m) 30/01/2013
D17, T2, Av8.29, max35, 10486, 200 ( these times are from the odometer, they refer only to when the bike is moving)
This short trip with rests took 4.5 hours
A fairly restless sleep was had, arising at 0600 and heading into town to take some photos, have breakfast and start the climb from here to Riosucio, I knew what was ahead.
The first 6k were ridden, then a 6k/hr stroll, bike to my left was adopted for the greater part of the climb. All said and done I can't think of a better way to move 80kg manually up a hill, short of wheel barrow.
Walking for me was the most practical way to go and resting where possible. I had tons of time and made the most of it. Just stopping to relax and take in the sights above and below,.
A young guy with the smallest of bikes was heading home, he joined me for a few k. I was too slow for him. Mis padres estan esparando he said as he bade farewell.
Though recharged from yesterday, I was wll aware of the need to proceed slowly.
Near the top of the climb, an animal sale was happening, horses, cows, pigs etc. From here people were seen taking their newly acquired livestock home on foot.
A lovely pace of life.
Arriving in Riosucio half an hour was spent in a tienda chatting and drinking chocolate milk with the owner before finding a suitable hotel.
The Hotel Monterrey was chosen as it had the net.
Very modern with hot water and $15 a night, a bit of luxury, though the bike had to be man handled up two flights of stairs.
A late lunch of chicken consome as was a couple of beers in the early evening.
The night time air temperature here is a very pleasant number in the low 20's
Tomorrow cold be another big day.
