Mild with cool winds
Now getting a bit low on Bencina, a fire was lit to boil water for breakfast. There was heaps of dry wood washed against trees in the dry creek. It had been deposited there in times of rain.
It burnt like tinder.
It was a mild morning. The road has little traffic, though having said this the shoulder is non existent.
It was more open desert country with small trees. Every couple of kilometres a dry creek bed would be passed. A lot of water comes out of the Sierra Fiambala which was with me for miles on my right.
Lunch was enjoyed at a restaurant on the corner at Alpasinebe, a bit of a fry up but just what was needed.
Soon the region of San Blas was reached. Here for about 15km were a series of pueblos, it was urban most of the way.
Supplies were bought at a tienda and water was obtained from a guys house.
Most bread is sold as baguettes, it is great eating, especially warm, just from the oven.
From here the road entered more dry arid country. A huge new vineyard was sighted.
This sandy, sometimes rocky country has the ability to drain quickly and comes with a Mediterranean climate, perfect for grapes and olives.
Just add water and hey presto, vino tinto!
Not wanting to end up in the town of Pituil for the night a campsite was spotted in the scrub.
Another restful night was to be had away from traffic.
These spots feel so safe. There is so much country out here for someone to stumble upon me, they would have to have just dropped in from another planet.
Some interesting plants are growing here, a mixture of cacti and other thorny shrubby dwellers. Animal life seems to be almost nonexistent.
Many people are driving really old cars in this largely rural area of Argentina, mostly old Peugeots, old American pickups and other old European makes.
The old Mercedes bullnose trucks are still very common here and for that matter throughout the rural areas of South America.
