5/3/2013 Canoa to San Clemente

Wet departure sunny periods on route
Leaving Coco loco about 0730, no breakfast was had as they had the kitchen closed up. The riding again was very easy on the flat concrete road.
The bike is taking a hiding in these conditions with so much sand amongst the water even on the main road. This combined with the wet is constantly rendering the chain dry of oil.
In San Vincente some handy oil in tiny 30ml containers was bought from a ferretería. This will spare my good oil for more favourable conditions when it will last a day or more.
This cheap oil was applied to the chain very liberally.
Before crossing the bay at Bahia de Caráquez all the cables on the bike were also lubricated.
A huge bridge spanning the bay has recently been constructed, though small boats still ferry people across the stretch of water.
I am taking my time on the coast as the wet season is in full swing and it will continue into mid April. My plan is to be on the Bolivian Altiplano when the rains have stopped up there, also in late April.
Anyway an easy ride was enjoyed after pulling in at San Clemente, a small fishing village, with a decidedly nice feel about it.
The Casa Real Hostel, almost on the beach was booked. Unpacking I headed for the beach and enjoyed a swim.
This beach was so much nicer than the northern beaches visited, it was wide, with not so dark sand and was almost flat.
Back at the room, an American guy David introduced himself to me. He was a decent kind of guy. We headed off down the beach for a stroll and a yarn.
He was preparing his papers for residency here. A very complicated process.
Anyway, on dark we pulled in at a bar, had a couple of beers and dinner, all very nice.
This young boy came to chat with us, his folks were on holiday, they were drinking, he was an only child, so was super inquisitive and helpful with Spanish, it was enjoyable.
Soon the rain started and never let up all night.
The mosquitoes kept me awake till some crazy hour.
Please see next entries spread out from 8/2/2013 Timbio... ( I know it's tricky, the site doesn't allow much better, thanks)
