6,7,8/06/2013 Cerro De Pasco all day
Very cold, 10°C, with light showers, everyday
For me with my cold the night was interrupted with dry mouth issues.
The room was a bit of a cave. Anyway we decided to end our riding together here and just have a couple of relaxing dsys exploring this little visited interesting town.
The bus depot is directly across from the hotel Yabán, a 0930 bus has been booked for her. It is perfect as we are two floors up and we can see to each others gear before we part company.
We were discussing loneliness. A friend of mine summed it up perfectly, for me I will be alone after Deirdre leaves, but will never be lonely. An important aspect when biking solo.
We changed rooms to a better set up with views over the street.
Importantly the cooking did not have to be done in the loo.
We sauntered into town for breakfast, ate fruit and generally acquainted ourselves with the town.
I got some replacement brackets made at a workshop. Back in the room, put a new chain on the bike and absconded Deirdres front and rear brake pads.
My rear pads were almost new before the descent into Huánuco, on close inspection they were three quarters worn. The wet weather and grit of the road had been very abrasive.
We watched a movie, I slept and Deirdre unloaded all the gear she no longer wants. The room cleaners will have a field day, finding socks, shoes, tea towel food etc. I will take some food.
After lunch we took a collective taxi to San Juan to the ATM there.
I have resorted to medicine for the cold. Pharmacies here sell pills individually, they use scissors to cut one off a sheet. The sale of pharmaceuticals at home is so wasteful, I know in our drug bowl there were heaps of out of date drugs, simply because you had to buy a whole packet to use one or two.
Resting here is perfect for me as this cold is developing beyond my throat.
Dinner was asparagus soup with heaps of broccoli, garlic and chilli cooked in the room.
A knock on the door saw us quickly hide all our cooking gear.
The woman was only delivering us a hot water bottle for the night, how hot is that.
Today Friday saw us catch up with Kate who arrived in town yesterday.
She is great value we all had a good catch up. Kate made it here from Huánuco in one day though rode here up that mountain in the dark and got here at 2000hrs.
She stayed at the fire station. We hope to cross paths again.
We took a trip to see the huge open cut mine in the middle of town between showers.
My health is becoming a pain, with this throat cold that can't be shaken. Though in this climate, about 10-12 degrees and wet each day it makes it difficult to shake such afflictions. Hopeful some good exercise again tomorrow will see it gone soon.
