Arriving in Colarado Springs we took the girls to the Garden of the Gods, near town, it is a major attraction due to its unique rock formations. By now we were all really feeling the lack of effort reqiured to keep the bod working at ease in bearable temperatures.
The scenery was superb, with the smell of pine trees in the air it was another world away from our point of departure.
We were doing the tourist things, people everywhere. A dentist in the early 1900's owned the land where the park is, he bequest it to the council and one condition was that the site will always be free for the public to visit. His request is still upheld to this day.
We took the girls to the souvenir shop to exercise their shopping gene. They both bought a little momento. Bought back memories of Ben and Cal at this age in these places.
Taking a drive from there took us to Manitou Springs, a favorite with people wanting a night out.
We then headed to the REI store to get a couple of things I needed.
We were greeted with an afternoon storm and associated lightening display with its high voltage participants trying to pierce vertical holes in the Rocky Mountain range to our west. So Australian,New South Wales Mid North Coast in its performance, though the Pacific Ocean is the recipient of such piercings.
By now it was approaching 1900hrs. We gained an hour driving this far west.
I located a cheap motel and bade farewell to the crew for a few days. Got settled in I wandered up the road for a meal. Those meals at the diners on the river are going to be missed. Ending up at an establishment, that had perfected the ability to present two pork chops and vegetables tasting like fast food.
It was fortunate that between the "restaurant" and my bed was a 30 minute walk. Any remnant after affects of the meal were gone.
