14/3/2012 odometer start:7938, Day#: 17
Passage: Playa Gorgona to Panama City
Dist: Time: Av. Speed: Total kms: 7938, In the front seat of a pickup
Weather: fine, clearWind: a head windTerrain: plano con una colina grande
Waking up a tad dusty, John had cooked a great brekky, it was then off the sea wall into the refreshing Pacific. There were powerful shore dumpers rolling in with incredible force sweeping me off my feet as they broke.
Caution took precedence and a fairly quick dip was taken.
The night before John told me he was heading back to PC this morning and would I like a lift.
It made alot of sense, it had been a tiring couple of weeks, there was a head wind blowing and traffic was heavy.
We loaded up the hilux said bye to Bébo and headed off. We called in at one of his mates nearby for a beer and a chat. It was such a pleasure to be in a car speeding along, the pleasure was further enhanced at the foot and during the ascent of a few hills encountered especially one notable climb.
It was classic on the way in John got a call from his 94 year old mama who among other things said “you aren’t drinking and driving are you”?
Though it is nice to be out there on the bike. Crossing the canal bridge was an experience not to be forgotten as a huge container ship was being manouvered by pilot vessels was just below.
PCs skyline is like that of any modern city, until you see all the palms and number plates with Panama printed on them.
Upon reaching town we went to a great Panaderia and caught up with more mates of Johns in a bar.
He knows alot of people about the place, it was obvious they all liked him alot, many laughs were enjoyed.
He found me a hotel walking distance to Via España, he was worn out to, we bade farewell. What he did for me made the trip into this vibrant city so enjoyable and relaxing. We hope to catch up again.
The afternoon was spent in town getting new thongs and a water bottle that fell from its holder on the rough road into Las Gorgona.
