9/2/2013 El Bordo to Tablon
D99, T6.4 (10), Av14.53, max57, Tot 11112, 913
Wet all day,
It was a wet overcast misty morning. Arising early, a walk was taken to the ATM to retrieve some cash. Heading out of town, it was all downhill with caution. The road then followed a river. This was great riding with good tree cover and pasture utilized by cattle. There had obviously been quite a bit of rain as the river was swollen and carrying plenty of silt revealed by its’ colour.
Leaving the river valley a few climbs were encountered so to were rocks on the road from small falls. It was a kind of sandstone rock, very soft.
Stopping at these, I kicked the bigger rocks off the road. However as their frequency increased this became unpractical and a bit dangerous.
Further into this hill country, coming round a bend, two other touring cyclists were seen ahead with their bikes leaning against a barrier.
Great I thought, some company for a bit
Pulling over, we did our intros, they were Canadian and had ridden from Alaska, all the way here, starting in May last year. They had spent the night at a motel I had passed a couple of hours ago. . We had lots to talk about. As it turned out they too had not enjoyed the company of another cyclist for sometime.

Riding on we were planning to get to Tablon that afternoon, Daimler had told me it could be done. The last climb to the one horse town in the clouds was brutal. The air temp was falling all the way up and we were wet through. I was was showing signs of wear, the ascent was 7km longer than we had expected.
Arriving about 0530, the first hotel was booked.
Walking across from our rooms to the restaurant, one felt like you do after a big day snow skiing: well rewarded,a little high, relaxed, coupled with a worn out feeling.
