9&10/5/2012 Santa Veronica
This stay here has been a great insight into the laid back atmosphere on the northern coast of Colombia.
Hernan and I have been fishing on a few occasions with only catching very small fish and in small numbers.
However it always relaxing standing in the surf with fishing rod in your hand, never knowing when the big tug is going to happen.
We were catching live prawns and small fish with a throw net, highly efficient for gathering live bait. They are illegal in my home state of New South Wales on Australias east coast.
More walking was enjoyed on the beach as was a bike ride up to Juan Del Acosta west of Santa Veronica.
The best Panaderia was located in the town, it was enjoyable relaxing over a nice pastry.
We have had two days without rain here, although somewhere is getting it every day, the horizon is always littered with storm clouds and thunder is always heard in the distance.
If you are ever in Santa Veronica, spending a night or two with Hernan and Margarita is recommended. They are relaxed people and great hosts. They have the circular house as you come in off the highway, you can’t miss it.
Today I took them to a local restaurant a few hundred metres away as a thankyou. We enjoyed a great meal and an even better lemonade with fresh lemons.
At the local pulperia a hundred metres away time is spent with the owners and people hanging there practising my spanish and just hanging about.
The buses have to report in here, a guy ticks them off and records the time, buses frequent here every 15 minutes.
Alberto one of the guys checking people and I got friendly and swapped a bit of music, he was a great help with my spanish, we had some good laughs.
The owners had a 6mth baby named Diego, what a cute kid. I had heaps of fun with him. Such a touchable little guy with a great smile.
The weather is still very humid with the days heating up so quick. In the early evening its lovely and cool with the trade winds blowing in off the sea.
Having said this a 0400 start is planned for the ride to Cartagena in the morning.
