22/8/2011 Columbia all day, pleasant temp and fine.

Deciding to stay another night ,I had a few things to do and this town had the resources.
I needed a second drink bottle, not being keen on storing water in a PET bottle, an ideal 1L aluminium replacement was found at an health shop. I had lost the other one one the road near Pueblo.
The tyre levers in my existing patch kit weren’t up to the task of removing the Duremes without bending so some new heavy duty replacements were bought. The guy tested my chain for wear, it was worn to the point where a replacement was needed, a sram quick link 9 was bought. It will be utilised as soon as they Katy is completed, it would be sacrilege to expose a new chain to this dusty crushed limestone.
Some books say chain replacement should occur between 5 and 10 thousand K. I feel my gross weight, hill climbing and mixed surfaces has lead to this wear requiring replacement at the lower end of the recommendations.
Next stop was the uni bookshop to get a book on Spanish, ideally the text supplied to 1st year students.
That a small city of students decend on the town this time of year was an understatment, you could hardly swing a cat around the streets near the bookshop.
Speaking with some second year Spanish students, they showed me the text they referred to in their first year. Knowing what text books cost, $220 did not surprise me. It was good value as they said it covered 3 semesters. I decided to buy it.
It took 1 hour in a line to finally front the cashiers, multiple lines queueing up, snaked their way all over the two storey store .
This uni is known for its journalism faculty.
Being a couple of kilos and coming with a work book and online support. I sorted through my gear and found some items of minimal use, tossed some, and posted the clothing home. The addition of this to my belongings, even though some discarded, has added to the credit side of the ledger in the weight stakes.
A cafe was found ,almost all in town offer wifi.A bit of tapping was done over a coffee, by now it was 1700hrs. An asian graze was had followed by the ride to my abode.
