21/9/2013 Rio Belén to Belén
D59, T2.5, Av21.4, Max64, Tot19495, 10129
Tee shirt, sandals and shorts weather.
Arising early to a mild morning, porridge, bread and coffee were enjoyed.
Sitting on my three legged camp stool, couldn’t do without it I might add.
There before me was a little tiny bromeliad surviving way out here in a small bush infront of me. There were no others anywhere.
This a fair way south for this little air plant, it was like a friend, a good omen.
They are one of the most adaptable plants I know. All they need is a place to cling too. A symbiotic relationship I might add, and air.
Packing up, an easy 30km ride to Belém was ahead.
It turned out to be mostly downhill.
Eroded lower ranges made for interesting scenery.
Markers on the road now show the distance to Ushuaia, the most southern city in the world.
Arriving in Belém, the first panadería saw me eat pastries and a couple of yoghurts.
Looking about town for an hour for a cheap place, the best was 120P a night. The Gomez hotel was chosen, it had a good private courtyard for drying clothes.
I bumped into Lucas in town, they were at a warm showers house.
We caught up on the last two days and parted, no doubt we will see each other again.
The town was shrouded in dust all afternoon, you could hardly see. It is normal here I am told.
Going outside was a gritty experience.
Dinner was enjoyed at a restaurant
Bencina is really hard to find here, not one ferretería had it. Luckily I still have supplies. It would be nice not to have to burn petrol in the stove. We will see.
