3/7/2011 St Cloud to Monticello 95km, hot,humid Total 1489
It was a pleasure awaking in Dave and Elaines backyard. The weather just gets better. One of the few powers I had to reutrn my thanks to people was utilized this morning by way of taking Dave and Elaine out for breakfast. Elaines uncle joined us. An amazing guy 98 years of age and sharp, rolled up in his car. He had helped repel the Japanese in New Guinea. He was also involved in the granite industry in St Cloud.
Back at Dave and Elaines place I packed and said goodbyes. Elaine had made ham and cheese sandwhiches and had ice packed them for me. Totally unexpected but welcomed. How thoughtful and kind of her.
My stay with them was a treat, I felt so comfotable in their company and elated with their hospitality, kindness and openess. Thanks so much you guys.
The beaver bike trail was bloked due to fallen trees, this was just out of town. No amount of reefing was going to move the debris. My chicken salad breakfast, though enjoyed only about two hours previous was not providing any more go. The sandwhiches were tastey and timely.
To keep it brief I got side tracked today, however great scenery was taken in on quiet roads. South Haven and Maple lake were visited.
With a break at a sub way in maple Lake, all these places have wi-fi and bttomless drinks and handy power points.
On approaches to Monticello I spotted a Chinese buffet on offer, enquiry indicated all you could eat for $9.00. This place was a North koreans wildest fantasy. There were no fewer than 120 choices of food, everything from King Crab legs to sushimi to salads to endless other combinations of meats and veges. I was so pissed off I had that half roll at subway. Needless to say the waitresses probably still removed 10 empty plates from my table. A beer washed it all down. They even had a complementary wheel chair for those who over indulged to be rolled out of into their car. Not quite.
For future reference: China Buffet 9301 Cedar St, Monticello. MN
I arrived at Monticello about 21000hrs, a small ride along the river was had with a chat to some locals fishing. I then found my way the River Terrace Park. A great spot to camp on the river. With power and showers avaliable all night.
I rode in my crocs, I wont adorn this attire for riding again, 4 toes had blisters, those moist kind, like a small burn, bugger.
Had a brew and went to sleep with a Chinese culinary cocktail on board.
