20/8/2011, Red Oak to Boonsville ( by motor vehicle)
Not an eyelid was moved till after 1000hrs ,it had been a big night and a fun night, I was pretty dusty.
I meandered up to the office to grab a coffee, all the crew were up there, we had a laugh about the evening.
I told Greg I had to head off today as I had to be in Alton, IL for Friday night to catch up with friends there.
Heading back to the suite, I packed everything and loaded the bike. Riding the 300m down to Johns place, it felt good to be back on the Brooks.
I told him of my plans as we pulled up a couple of chairs in the shed and yarned. I was going to ride back to Boonsville and then pick up the Katy trail back to St Charles and get the ferry across to Grafton and then cycle on to Godfrey.
John offered to take me to Boonsville in his pickup with Bud of course. Having had such a big couple of days, I decided to put my health first and greatfully accepted his offer.
It would be a good time to chat prior to saying goodbye. He hadn’t been to Boonsville for along time so it was all good.
We loaded up the bike and gear, stopping to say goodbye to everyone at the office.
Kevin, a staff member, the first person I met when I arrived at the park, Laurie, who has recently graduated and Greg her brother who runs things were there. We took heaps of photos.
I could not thank them enough, their hospitality, friendliness, goodwill, kindness and easy dispositions were overwhelming. It felt like I had known them a lot longer. There will be a bed for any of them when they come to Australia or New Zealand.
My three day stay here in the Lake of the Ozarks at the Red Oak Park is a time that that like others on this journey will leave a permanent etching in my mind.
Meeting and enjoying time with John and his special attitude towards life will always be remembered .
If you ever find yourself in The Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri in the area of Greenview. I would stongly recommend staying here. It is central to many eateries and is on the water. The atmosphere at this park is one of relaxation.
This area of the Mid West is one place where I could easily see myself living, life for many people here revolves around tourism and the lake.
John and I headed off for Boonsville some 70 miles away .Arriving we stopped at a bar for a beer and a meal, Making a few phone calls a $35 a night motel was found. It was raining so this accommodation was chosen.
John dropped me off. We both bought a lotto with a system I gave him, agreeing if either one of us won I would be straight back for another night on the town.
Saying our goodbyes to what was a great few days, Bud took up residence in his front seat for the ride home. Most of the time I was in the truck he was spread out on the consol not missing a thing, sometimes with his head resting on Johns right arm on the wheel. Barking when he needed to go to the loo.
I phoned Laurie to let her know John and Bud were on their way home from Boonsville.
Johns drive home was in good company.
