Friday, 9 March 2012 odometer start:7938, Day#: 12
Passage: servo to Playa Las Lajas
Dist: 18, Time: 1hr, Av. Speed: 16.58 Total kms: 8758
Weather: idyllic, Wind: afternoon seabreeze, Terrain: plano
Arising to the sound of finches feeding, a new tube was fitted to the front wheel and the front derailleur fine tuned.
On departure, the woman at the servo was sincerely thanked.
The crossroads to Las Lajas were 2k down the road, some tuna and crackers were bought, it was an easy ride to the coast.
Arriving there I was blown away at the beauty of this huge open beach with the blue sea some 200m down the beach of a darkish fine sand.
Pulling in at some cabinas the guy had room for me. At $20 a night I had a cabin with a double bed ,a shower and loo. All this under coconut palms on the beach, shutters allowed a magical on shore breeze to bathe the interior in cool air. Islands were visible on the horizon, the Islas Secas
So taken away by the isolation, tranquility and atmosphere of the setting, two nights were booked.
The young bloke told me they have 18 foot tides here and showed me photos of him surfing the beach.
Having a swim, just relaxing with a kip and a yak with an Austrian couple in the cabin behind mine,( the kip was alone) the day just slide on like ice on glass, a couple of beers were enjoyed at the local resort,(US1) a quick meander down the beach, a resort of low key presence patronised by mainly Swiss and Germans.
Not travelling with a guide book due to weight issues, arriving at these kind of places is all the more of a surprise, Martina told me lonely Planet mention this place because of its isolation and beauty.
Another swim was enjoyed as the tide was reaching its peak, the day then wound up with a sunset that only an aqueous foreground can produce, one of granduer and surreal beauty.
Catching up with Martina and Raymond we wandered down to the resort for dinner, one of seafood, gin, beer and interesting conversation. A most enjoyable end to a day in a bit of Panamanian paradise.

Las Lajas all day
An early swim was enjoyed, the water here is of a temperature that one really does not want to get out, much warmer than San Juan Del Sur.
The morning was spent at the resort, tapping away, having a bite to eat. Having no desire to spend time in the sun, this local sufficed perfectly.
The afternoon saw more swimming and a kip. Tea with a Canadian couple was enjoyed at the cabiñas restuarant, we all then caught up with Ray and Martina for drinks at the resort.
When asking Martina of any companies in Austria that are iconic she said Red Bull is an Austrian company, there you go, new to me, Austria has other big companies, unknown though, as they manufacture for bigger companies. Ray worked for a high tech dental research company making laser equipment for dentists.
Embarrasingly I cant rember the other canadian couples names, sorry you guys.
They lived on Vancouver Island and had land in Baja california, at home they have a forest of trees in their back yard and in Baja they have a cacti forest beyond the boundaries there.
